FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
At what age should my child learn to swim?
We offer children's swimming courses from 4 years old.
How long does it take for my child to be able to swim?
The 7 basic tests (Crab to Polar Bear) lay the foundation for being able to stay versatile and safe in water and learn to swim well. The core movements form the basis for all swimming sports.
Do I need to bring swim fins?
No, you do not have to.
What do I need to bring to the swimming course?
You only need a bathing suit, or swim trunks and a towel for your child. Everything else will be provided by the Swimming School Knechtli.
Do I need a special diaper for baby bathing?
No. We have found that it is not necessary. A bathrobe or swim trunks are more than sufficient.
How large are the course groups?
The instruction in the children's swimming courses takes place in small groups. Usually, the courses from Crab to Octopus have about 6–8 participants and the courses from Crocodile to Training Group Children have about 8–10 participants.
Do you offer private lessons?
If a water area is available, we are happy to also offer private lessons.
Can I as a parent contribute to the learning progress?
The success of the instruction depends not only on the talent and diligence of the child but also significantly on parental involvement. Be a role model and go swimming regularly with your child outside of the course as well. Children who swim outside of the course often make much greater progress.
Are parents involved in the children's swimming courses?
No. Parents bring the children to the changing room. There they hand them over to the course instructors. They then return them after the course back to the changing room where parents receive their children again. Depending on the indoor pool, it is possible to follow the course from a waiting area.
Why are parents not allowed to watch in street clothes in the indoor pool?
For hygiene reasons it is not permitted to enter the indoor pool in street clothes.
Are there free trial lessons?
We offer a free trial lesson for Aqua-Fit®, Aqua-Jogging, Aqua-Gym and Aqua-Cycling. Please let us know beforehand which class you would like to attend.
Health questions
An absolute swimming ban applies in the following cases: ear infections, eye infections, diarrhea, contagious diseases, lice, fever, cold illnesses and after vaccinations.
Any vaccination appointments should be scheduled so that there is as much time as possible until the next lesson, but at least 48 hours. It is of great importance that you inform us upon registration about any medical problems or disabilities of your child.
